Handcrafted Glass Neon Artwork

Handcrafted Glass Neon Artwork

Handcrafted Glass Neon Artwork by Tony. Tony was born and bred in South East London and has been producing neon signs as a glass bender for over 30 years. The creation of handmade neon artworks uses techniques that date back to 1910.

Tony’s skills were learnt during his apprenticeship at a large sign company in London, where he began as a trainee in 1989. He fell in love with neon and the process, and quickly realised that there is so much more to neon signs than high street signage, fuelling his passion for wanting to use neon in a more artistic way.

After following his heart and moving to Manchester in 2001, Tony worked within another neon sign company, honing his skills as a neon craftsman. Tony was keen to utilise his skills in more creative ways than the scope of his current and previous roles allowed, so with the support of his wife Catherine, in 2005 Neon Creations was born to enable Tony to realise his ambition of unleashing his creativity and skills as a neon glass bender.

Handcrafted Glass Neon Artwork in the workshop

From the Bolton based studio, Neon Tony (as he soon became known) and the Neon Creations team, soon began to attract attention as a leading neon sign company within the UK, with Neon Creations now being one of the UK’s most respected neon sign companies. Tony’s pieces evolved far beyond the traditional setting of commercial neon sign making, with his vision of neon being commissioned as artwork in its own right, quickly being realised.

His works have gained critical acclaim in both corporate and domestic settings with Tony producing bespoke pieces for major brands as well as high profile musicians and premiership footballers commissioning him to produce the ultimate in high quality neon artwork.

Whilst not following the traditional route of a trained artist, Tony is immensely proud to be one of the few neon artists in the UK that actually design and make their own work, and loves the journey that each original idea takes him on, with a finished piece never ending up as originally visualised.

Tony enjoys pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved with neon glass in combination with other substrates, thus provoking his audience to think “I didn’t know you could do that with neon!”. He also follows the ethos of “never stop learning” with his apprentices, which he uses himself whilst exploring new ideas.

If it’s not made from glass, it’s not a neon sign!
